On April 29th, GS1 US, Retail AG and Simplain hosted a joint webinar regarding best practice for data governance. Ed Wong, an expert with 30 years of experience in retail supply chain operations and IT systems, suggested that data quality has been a prominent yet often ignored issue for most retailers and wholesalers because of its complexity.

Lucelena, director of supply chain visibility at GS1 US, and Sanjaye then presented use cases where adapting GS1 Standards and Simplain Vendor Portal improved data quality and supply chain transparency, one of the use cases being FSMA 204 compliance. Sanjaye argued that while bigger vendors are capable of adopting electronic solutions, smaller vendors for fresh produce often don't have the technical capability for such solutions. A vendor portal system is the middle ground for both sides since it is more commonly used and less technically demanding while ensuring data accuracy and accountability.
